In 1993, the Young Parents program at G.P. Vanier High School was formed in response to a need to help young parents complete their high school education. The young parent program assists youth under the age of 25 who are parents or currently pregnant and are seeking support to complete their high school education. Specifically, the program provides support around education, childcare, and the social and health needs of expectant and parenting students in the Comox Valley. The child care centre allows parents to pursue their studies and careers while leaving their children in the trusted and experienced hands of TNTLS’ Early Childhood Educators.

Young Parent Coordinator

Ainslie Patteson

Ainslie grew up in Toronto but has since spent time in many cities across the country. She has always had a keen interest in working with children and youth, and has explored this through various positions from nanny, to Mad Science teacher, to a youth motivational speaker, and to being a summer camp coordinator. Most recently, Ainslie has been working in the field of mental health and addictions while completing her Bachelor of Social Work. She may already be a familiar face to some of you as “Jude’s mom “, however her first hand experience as a single mother and her familiarity with our society as a parent of a child in our toddler program are already great assets towards a seamless transition to the position. Ainslie brings a wide breadth of life experience and passion towards her new role within TNTLS family and through her work with the Young Parents, looks forward to making a positive impact in our community.
